Senior at Branksome Hall Asia and Research Assistant at Jeju National University College of Medicine, passionate about a career in immunology and oncology.
Intro
I was born and raised on Jeju Island, South Korea, where the rhythms of island life have deeply shaped who I am. Being from Jeju is not just part of my identity but the foundation of my curiosity and drive to explore beyond what I already know. I believe that doubt is where curiosity begins, and that curiosity is what allows me to seek and build knowledge.
This outlook has carried me through both academics and athletics. On the court, I grew as a varsity basketball player, earning team MVP and leading my school to a bronze medal in a national tournament. In the classroom, I was recognized as the most outstanding student in Biology and Chemistry in both 2023–2024 and 2024–2025, achievements that reflect not only my work ethic but also my passion for uncovering the mechanisms of life.
That spirit of questioning drives my fascination with science. When I ask myself, “If ligands and receptors bind to transmit signals, is there no way to block the transmission when needed?” I uncover the role of inhibitors and begin exploring deeper, intricate mechanisms that connect to medical realities. It is this cycle of inquiry and discovery that fuels my aspiration for a career in pathology, immunology, and oncology.
“When you're given an opportunity to change your life, be ready to do whatever it takes to make it happen. The world doesn't give things, you take things.”
