#1 Life Without Music? Unimaginable

After watching the film Soul, I found myself deeply inspired by the world of jazz. That spark led me to immerse myself in that genre, slowly learning how to compose within the jazz idiom.

School Life is a jazz composition I wrote to reflect the rhythm and emotions of our school’s four-period curriculum system. Each section of the piece mirrors a different part of the day — from the optimism of fresh beginnings to the intensity of midday challenges, and finally the resilience students show under pressure. Through swing rhythms, modulations, and a blend of major and minor tones, I aimed to capture both the shared structure of school life and the personal struggles that lie beneath it.

With my curiosity about technology’s role in music and my passion for composition, I created Stars in October, an electronic piece that explores both the promise and pitfalls of technological development in the music industry. Using the well-known melody of Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star as its backbone, the project became an especially engaging process of reimagining a familiar tune through modern electronic textures.

Amid the beautiful scenery of Jeju, the Chunsong Children’s Choir performed on The Miracle, which was organized and aired on CTStv on May 14, 2022. Our performance of I Dream of a World of Peace was dedicated to Ukraine and to all people around the world in need of a message of peace.

I also performed a duet of Laudamus Te as the Act II opening at the Chunsong Children’s Choir 4th Annual Concert.
